How It Started
A gap in the market.
A fire in the heart.
Growing up with a deep love for home décor, Peter Mauno always believed a home should tell a story — your story, your roots, your culture. But when he looked around, he found something missing. Most stores were filled with generic pieces, and the rich world of authentic African craft was invisible.
That gap became his calling. In 2023, Peter founded Maunos Decor with a clear mission: to give authentic African art a platform it deserves — and give the people behind it a sustainable livelihood.
What started as a curated selection of handpicked pieces has grown into something far larger. We're opening our platform to talented artisans across Kenya and East Africa, turning Maunos into a community-driven marketplace for handmade African craft.
"I wanted to build something that gave African art the platform it deserves — and gave the people behind it a sustainable way to make a living doing what they love."
— Peter Mauno, Founder & CEO
What We Stand For
Our Values
Community First
We partner directly with local artisans across Kenya and East Africa, ensuring fair compensation and sustainable livelihoods for every maker behind every piece.
Celebrating African Culture
Every piece is a tribute to the richness of African heritage — from Rwandan weaving traditions to Nairobi string art and Kenyan basket craft.
Authentically Handmade
We never sell mass-produced imitations. Every item carries the fingerprints of the person who made it and the story of the culture that inspired it.
